Generalized instantaneous parameters and window matching in the time-frequency plane

چکیده
In this paper, the concept of instantaneous parameters, which has previously been associated exclusively with 1-D measures like the instantaneous frequency and the group delay, are extended to the 2-D time-frequency plane. Such generalized instantaneous parameters are associated with the shorttime Fourier transform. They may also be interpreted as local moments of certain time-frequency distributions. It is shown that these measures enable local signal behavior to be characterized in the time-frequency plane for nonstationary deterministic signals. The usefulness of the generalized instantaneous parameters is demonstrated in their application to optimal selection of windows for spectrograms. This is achieved through window matching in the time-frequency plane. An algorithm is provided that illustrates the performance of this window matching. Results based on simulated and real data are presented.

متن کاملUWB Planar Conical Horn-Shaped Self-Complementary Bow-Tie Antenna
An ultra-wideband (UWB) self-complementary planar bow-tie antenna (SCPBTA) is proposed. The antenna consists of a printed conical horn-shaped (CHS) radiator and a counterpart CHS slot etched on a rectangular ground plane. The printed CHS radiator is connected directly to the 50Ω microstrip line by bending the end portion of the feed line. As a result, the antenna has a simple structure which do...
متن کاملThe Wigner distribution of noisy signals with adaptive time-frequency varying window
Time–frequency representations using the Wigner distribution (WD) may be significantly obscured by the noise in observations. The analysis performed for the WD of discrete-time noisy signals shows that this time–frequency representation can be optimized by the appropriate choice of the window length. However, the practical value of this analysis is not significant because the optimization requi...
متن کاملDifferential t∗ measurements via instantaneous frequency matching: observations of lower mantle shear attenuation heterogeneity beneath western Central America
S U M M A R Y We infer shear attenuation in the lower mantle by using the method of instantaneous frequency matching to calculate differential t∗ between core-reflected ScS and direct S (δt∗ScS−S). The instantaneous frequency at the envelope peak of a seismic phase is related to the average Fourier spectral frequency of that phase. To estimate δt∗ScS−S for a given trace, we first calculate the ...
متن کاملOptimizing Disparity Candidates Space in Dense Stereo Matching
In this paper, a new approach for optimizing disparity candidates space is proposed for the solution of dense stereo matching problem. The main objectives of this approachare the reduction of average number of disparity candidates per pixel with low computational cost and high assurance of retaining the correct answer. These can be realized due to the effective use of multiple radial windows, i...
